As a 220/66/33kV Substation & Transmission Line Engineer specialized in operation and maintenance, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient functioning, safety, and reliability of the electrical infrastructure including substations and transmission lines. Your role will involve overseeing various aspects of operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination to ensure uninterrupted power transmission.
Key Responsibilities:
Substation Operation and Maintenance:
· Monitor and control the operation of 220/66/33 kV substations to ensure smooth power flow.
· Perform regular inspections of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, relays, switches, and other associated devices.
· Implement preventive maintenance schedules and conduct routine checks to identify and address potential issues proactively.
· Troubleshoot electrical faults, diagnose problems, and coordinate repairs or replacements as necessary.
· Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and protocols during all operations and maintenance activities.
Transmission Line Management:
· Oversee the operation and maintenance of 220/66/33 kV transmission lines to ensure efficient power transfer.
· Conduct routine inspections of transmission towers, conductors, insulators, and other components to detect wear, corrosion, or damage.
· Coordinate with field crews to address any identified issues promptly and minimize downtime.
· Plan and execute transmission line maintenance activities including vegetation management, line clearance, and equipment upgrades.
· Monitor line performance, analyze data, and implement improvements to optimize transmission efficiency.
Emergency Response and Troubleshooting:
· Respond to emergency situations such as equipment failures, outages, or storm damage affecting substations or transmission lines.
· Coordinate with maintenance teams, contractors, and relevant authorities to restore power promptly and safely.
· Conduct post-incident analysis to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Documentation and Reporting:
· Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, inspections, tests, and repairs conducted on substations and transmission lines.
· Prepare regular reports on the operational performance, maintenance activities, and reliability metrics.
· Provide recommendations for upgrades, replacements, or improvements based on observed trends and analysis.
Team Collaboration and Training:
· Collaborate with other engineering teams, technicians, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of substation and transmission line operations.
· Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff members or field personnel as needed.
· Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the operation and maintenance team.
Requirements:
· Diploma/ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
· Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is desirable.
· Proven experience in operation and maintenance of 220/66/33 kV substations and transmission lines, preferably in a utility or power generation environment.
· In-depth knowledge of substation equipment, protection schemes, relay coordination, and transmission line design principles.
· Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NESC).
· Strong analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot complex electrical systems effectively.
· Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
· Demonstrated leadership abilities and project management experience.
· Willingness to work in outdoor environments and respond to emergencies outside regular working hours.
