CLYNK is seeking a Director of Transportation to join our team! We are a fast paced recycling and technology company recognized for being innovators and leaders in our industry. We are the fastest growing mode of beverage container recycling and the most requested option by consumers. Our patented technology supports recycling at scale across an entire ecosystems, including states with Deposit Recovery Systems (aka "Bottle Bill" states). We operate over 100 "bag-drop" depots across Maine and New York, with processing facilities and fleets located in Biddeford and Oakland, Maine, as well as Scotia, New York. Job Summary:
The Director of Transportation will be responsible for leading the transportation team and developing an optimized strategy as a pickup agent. In this leadership role, you will collaborate with Plant Operations, Equipment/R&D, and the CLYNK Partner Success team on a regular basis to ensure a smooth, efficient operation with a high level of customer satisfaction. The Director of Transportation reports to the SVP of Operations, who in turn reports to the COO. You will be a key member of Redemption Operation leadership and may be called upon to lead cross-functionally as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Work with the SVP to define a cross-regional transportation and servicing strategy leveraging CLYNK’s private fleet assets and the transportation team, with a focus on execution, growth, and cost controls.
- Rethink CLYNK’s Field Service/Transportation model to best leverage multiple processing facilities (delivery endpoints). Optimize cost and service, leveraging data-driven decision-making to deliver meaningful results that align with the needs of the business unit.
- Act as a senior liaison to our local retailer pick-up locations and support the division/corporate retailer relationships as needed. Similarly, interact with suppliers, and outsourced support partners at senior levels.
- Lead and develop supervisors and team members while maturing programs in Safety & Training, Asset Management, and Compliance.
- Review hiring practices and job descriptions to ensure match with current needs. Build, hire, manage, and motivate a high-caliber, team-oriented team with systems approach.
- Ensure CLYNK is employer-of-choice for drivers and related personnel, ensuring high levels of staffing, driver job satisfaction, and retention.
- Work closely with SVP to monitor and measure transportation costs and expenses, identifying opportunities to unlock savings and or grow our scope of services.
- Seek continuous improvement to identify ways to squeeze cost from our transportation models without sacrificing service. Think outside the box so that we are expansive in the solutions we consider.
- Lead change initiatives effectively, ensuring on-going communication with frontline supervisors and team leads.
- Practice an entrepreneurial mindset; able to think “big picture” while shifting between the operational and strategic needs of problem solving with the team.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or commensurate experience.
- 10+ years of hands-on operations experience with increasing responsibility in the transportation, logistics or field service, with an emphasis on trucking and or fleet operations; ideal candidate will have experience working in an industry requiring the regular servicing of many locations, preferably a physical pick-up component (i.e. parcel pick up, waste pick up).
- 3+ years of people leadership experience.
- Knowledge of Transportation efficiency metrics and levers.
- Experience in specifying, sourcing, qualifying, and launching transportation related equipment (vehicles or technology enabling tracking, routing, load measurement etc).
- Experience in client management and client location servicing, as well as interactions involving consumers.
- Demonstrated business acumen, strategic thinking, and an ability to execute against formulated strategy.
- Comfort with numbers and spreadsheets. Advanced level skills with Microsoft Suite applications. Not intimidated by an environment where your reports and related technology “tools” have not yet been created.
- Experience utilizing technology and data to optimize routes and influence ongoing operations.
- Excellent organization skills, proven written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Requirements:
- Pre-employment screening: May be subject to a criminal background check; must have a valid Class C license and overall clean driving record.
- Physical requirements: Able to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to repetitively lift bags weighing up to 60lbs in the event support is needed in the field.
- Schedule: This is a Monday through Friday position with weekend work required during the high-volume season (June-September).
- Location: Position will be working primarily out of our Biddeford, ME location with some requirements to work out of our Oakland, ME location as needed.
- Travel: Some additional travel may be required, including trips to our Scotia, NY location estimated 5-7 times per year.
