Solar Design Engineer
Location: New York City, NY (Hybrid)
Client Summary:
Our Client provides distributed energy and sustainability solutions to business and industrial (B&I) asset owners across various regional and utility territories and diverse asset classes. Our Client anticipates significant demand for its solutions, which help large B&I portfolio owners develop strategies, business cases, and deployment plans for distributed generation technologies. These technologies are designed to enhance their businesses and can be monitored, maintained, and measured to deliver the expected ESG and financial benefits.
Job Duties:
- Design and engineer system layouts and perform shade analysis for B&I scale solar project feasibility analysis.
- Create single-line diagrams for rooftop, canopy, BIPV, and ground mount PV systems.
- Make copies of drawings and maintain information regarding changes in the database, following company document control protocol.
- Interface with third-party EPCs, design firms, and AHJs to ensure system design conforms with local building and fire codes.
- Perform preliminary energy production modeling for financial analysis and final production modeling for performance acceptance tests using PVSyst.
- Complete other assignments and special projects as directed by the Director of Engineering.
- Travel as needed to perform or witness site surveys, installation QA/QC, system commissioning, and vendor interaction.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural or Electrical engineering, or related engineering field or equivalent educational/ certification background
- PVSyst, SAM, Helioscope, and Aurora software proficiency preferred.
- Solid understanding of drafting and PV techniques like layer control, dimensioning and scaling, sheet sets, xrefs, blocks etc.
- Familiarity with engineering terminology
- AutoCAD proficiency preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant industry design standards such as IBC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 1, OSHA.
- Knowledge of solar electric principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Capability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
- Ability to travel 15%- 20% of the time to job site, EPC vendors etc.
- Minimum 1-3 years previous solar design experience with EPC, Developer or Design firm
