Position Overview
This position as part of the Test Engineering organization will provide comprehensive test engineering support to Proterra’s Battery Engineering team and Proterra Technology Lab. You will be responsible for the plan, setup, execution, and reporting of thermal reliability, validation, and verification tests on high voltage battery packs and sub-systems.
About the Role – You will:
- Execute thermal characterization, verification, validation, and durability, tests on early product prototypes.
- Act as a subject matter expert for thermal reliability test requirements, test methodologies, and test results.
- Provide clear and concise documentation related to tests, including reports on parts under test and their status.
- Capture and root-cause identified failures in detail and work cross-functionally to facilitate resolution or countermeasures.
- Support the design, implementation, and document new electro-mechanical test fixtures.
- Build LabVIEW programs to log data, communicate with test articles, and process complex sets of data.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues with test equipment and drive corrective actions.
- Coordinate with external service companies in support of repairs, maintenance, and calibration of thermal reliability test equipment.
- Prioritize and complete tasks to meet deadlines.
- Provide design input to improve product safety, reliability, and performance when necessary.
- Interact with a wide variety of individuals and teams to communicate results.
- Create work instructions and best practices for other engineers and technicians to follow.
- Create and maintain test procedures and reports in cloud-based systems such as Jira, Confluence, and Jama.

Your Experience Includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- 2+ years of testing experience in the automotive or transportation industries. Understanding of high voltage battery systems or powertrains is a plus.
- Experience in executing tests using environmental chambers.
- Demonstrated use and solid foundation of heat transfer and thermodynamics principles.
- Experience with LabVIEW, data acquisition systems, digital and analog interfaces for PCs, test systems, etc.
- Experience with scripting languages such as python, MATLAB, C, VBA, etc.
- Experience in an R&D testing environment.
- Experience with test instrumentation (i.e., temperature, flow, pressure, current, voltage).
- Experience with testing electro-mechanical systems and electronic circuit components.
- Experience with wired communication protocols such as automotive CANbus/J1939, serial RS-232, and ethernet.

Compensation: $108,720-$120,800
