We are currently seeking a Lead/Senior Technician to support the testing infrastructure needs of the battery cell testing team, including an analytical lab. You will work closely with engineers and technicians to support the rapidly expanding battery lab. Role:
· Support both battery testing and analytical lab equipment: tool installation, set-up, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and calibration of test equipment including environmental chambers, test fixtures, battery cell cyclers, and gloveboxes.
· Lead Technician will co-author equipment maintenance plans for new equipment (e.g., FAT/SAT).
· Work with engineers and technicians to design, build, and assemble test fixtures and wire harnesses. Collaborate to assist in standardizing laboratory operations and testing processes.
· Organize and maintain the battery lab space, tools, and parts inventory, and promote a safe working environment.
· Proactively communicate with engineers and cross-functional colleagues in EH&S and Facilities, e.g., identify areas of improvement through equipment procurement and automation
· Execute cell testing and provide engineering support related to cell material and electrochemical analysis
· 50% supporting analytical lab and 50% supporting battery cell test equipment
Qualifications:
· Experience setting up and maintaining lab equipment (environmental chambers, power supplies, plumbing, exhaust, pneumatics, inert gas systems, glove boxes, vacuum pumps)
· Advanced skills in: mechanical, machine shop tools, and safety
· Basic skills in: electrical knowledge/skill including fine pitch soldering, CATIA/Solidworks design, understanding of laboratory safety and hazards, e.g., chemical, electrical, lithium-ion battery
· Experience in creating responsive and preventive maintenance plans for equipment
· Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and computer operation, including online collaboration and documentation
· Minimum 5 years experience in an R&D or testing environment
· Candidates will take a skills test to validate these qualifications are met
Preferred:
· Experience working near or around high-voltage equipment
· Battery cell testing experience using Arbin or Maccor cyclers
· Experience working in R&D laboratory environments and handling/disposing of hazardous chemicals and materials preferred
· Experience in FAT/SAT equipment commissioning & qualification is preferred
· Experience with Python, Matlab, Arduino, Eagle or similar software
· Proficiency with Arbin and/or Maccor software is a plus. Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Atlassian Jira, Confluence, Smartsheets, or Quickbase is a plus
Physical Demands:
· Capable of lifting up to 50lbs and willing to get forklift certification
· Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection when required
