Arkansas Talent Group is partnering with a carbon offset project development company to find a Senior Forest Carbon Analyst. This is a newly created position due to the company's rapid growth. The role is based in Central Arkansas and would consider 6 months remote, and then relocate/transition to in-office.
In this role, you'll play a vital role in shaping the future of carbon markets by working with a team of forest carbon specialists, engineers, and program managers to assess and develop high-quality carbon credits. Your expertise in forest carbon modeling, data analysis, and creative problem-solving will drive verification processes, optimize workflows, and shrink project timelines, ensuring lasting environmental impact and value for landowner partners. Collaborating closely with GIS and Forestry teams, youll contribute to long-term forest carbon projections and partner on innovative carbon development plans, all while advancing your skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Responsibilities:
- Process, analyze, and interpret forest carbon data using GIS, databases, spreadsheets, and other software tools
- Evaluate forest carbon stocks and project outcomes through the application of forest biometrics and statistical analysis.
- Develop and implement growth and yield models to support long-term forest carbon projections.
- Apply a deep understanding of environmental conservation principles and sustainability practices to drive project success.
- Conduct diverse quantitative and spatial analyses to support the development of carbon projects.
- Advance processes and procedures to ensure compliance with leading forest carbon registry protocols and support project verifications.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality project outcomes.
- Conduct forest inventories, design sample plots, and develop forest management plans and timber harvest plans to support project objectives.
- Utilize forest modeling and analysis tools such as the USFS Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS) and Woodstock Forest Optimization by Remsoft.
- Design and implement greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction plans in accordance with top-tier forest carbon registry standards.
- Assist in preparing project data reports and verification documentation for carbon credit validation and reporting.
- Utilize GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS Pro) to support spatial analysis and project development.
Qualifications:
- A university degree, certification or work experience in forestry, environmental science, or earth sciences
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data modeling and analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to execute successful projects.
- Deep understanding of environmental conservation principles and sustainability practices.
- Experience using the USFS Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS)
- Experience with forest inventories, sample plot design, forest management plans, and timber harvest plans
- Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) programs, databases, spreadsheets, and software tools to process, analyze, and interpret forest carbon data.
- Experience with forest biometrics and statistical analysis to evaluate forest carbon stocks and project outcomes.
- Advanced knowledge of growth and yield models to support long-term forest carbon projections.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to travel occasionally for site visits, team meetings, and industry conferences as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree or PhD in forestry, natural resources, or related subjects
- 2+ years of experience in a forestry-related occupation, preferably working with forest carbon modeling activities
- Strong statistical and analytical skills including experience in using programming languages such as R, Python, and SQL
- Experience with voluntary forest carbon protocols in North America, especially the American Carbon Registrys (ACR) methodologies for Improved Forest Management (IFM)
- Strong quantitative and spatial analysis skills including experience in the application of remote sensing in forestry
- Familiarity with silvicultural and forest management practices of Southern US
- Ability to build and cultivate strong and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Significant experience in forest carbon methodologies and protocols.
