JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Independence National Historical Park. The primary purpose of the position is to operate one or more motor vehicles including straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more the 32,000 pounds, or truck tractors with semi-trailers or full trailers. Some of the vehicles operated may have manual transmissions with from four to ten forward gears and high and low auxiliary transmission. MAJOR DUTIES: Drive a 32,600 lb. G.V.W. (Gross Vehicle Weight) diesel trash truck with a 20 cubic yard hydraulic control compacting unit in a restricted, congested urban environment. Load, tow, back, and unload trailers in a congested urban environment. Perform operator-level preventative maintenance on a 32,600 lb. G.V.W. diesel trash truck equipped with auxiliary pumping system, air brakes, and air tanks that require daily checks.
