JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation Cultural Division of the Resource Science and Stewardship Directorate. This is a temporary appointment NTE 1039 hours. This position has one vacancy that will be filled in Boston, MA. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Cartographic Technician, GS-1371-07, with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to: Visits field sites to gather information, utilizing accepted field mapping techniques which may include GPS, total station, tape and compass, alidade and plan table or any combination thereof. Inputs routine and complex spatial and non-spatial digital data to draft format, field compilation, CAD or GIS. Performs proper verification and check procedures to ensure the resultant database or drawing files are free as possible from error. Informs staff of the types of information that can be derived from various remote sensor, GPS, GIS and field mapping techniques in relation to the proposed projects. Produces user ready original or derived thematic maps in variable formats and media at various scales with appropriate symbols, legends and title blocks. Produces publication ready materials with appropriate printer information, collation sheets, layout, paste up and photograph preparation.
