JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Point Reyes National Seashore, in the Park Management Division. Open to the first 101 applicants or until 05/22/2024 whichever comes first. MAJOR DUTIES: Serves as park superintendent by providing leadership on the implementation of all park policies, directives, guidelines and standards. Directly supervises and leads the park's senior management staff. Provides direction in program planning and adjustments in priority of budget and staffing requirements. Directs and coordinates management improvement programs and actions for the development of improved work methods and practices. Directs and coordinates the formulation of long-range objectives and annual program goals. Physical Demands: Work is mostly sedentary; however, significant pressures generated from an extensive variety of influences may result in significant psychological pressure, exposure to stressful situations and periods of intense workload. Frequent public contacts, attendance at conferences, planning and negotiation meetings involve operating in a very stressful environment. Work hours can be long and erratic. Occasional trips to field locations may involve hiking short to medium distances over rough and uneven terrain, traveling over rough roads in 4-wheel drive vehicles, or low-level flying in helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft. Frequent work-related travel is required that may involve brief exposure to natural hazards, extreme temperatures, and primitive conditions. A healthy constitution is required although little physical labor is involved. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily in offices and meeting rooms. There are periods of exposure to outside elements during routine park tours and attendance at numerous special events throughout the year. Work involves considerable travel within the local urban area as well as travel to other cities throughout the United States. Occasional foreign travel may also be necessary.
