This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), The Office of the Under Secretary (UNSEC), Office of General Counsel (OGC) Southeast Regional Section with one (1) vacancy located in St. Petersburg, FL. MAJOR DUTIES: As an Attorney-Advisor in the Southeast Section, You will work closely with experienced biologists and fishery managers in, among other things, developing and reviewing regulations, permits, and policies relating to the management and conservation of marine resources. This position requires interaction with other NOAA General Counsel Office attorneys, scientists, policy makers and technical staff, Department of Commerce officials, other Federal and state agency officials, members of the regulated community, and representatives of public interest organizations. It also involves active participation, in concert with U.S. Department of Justice attorneys, in defending NOAA cases brought under the Endangered Species Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act and other similar laws. The work involves complex and challenging issues on important matters. The attorney(s) will be hired at the GS-12 through GS-15 grade levels, depending on experience.
