This is open to current permanent competitive National Park Service (NPS) employees or those eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA).
The position is located in the Maintenance division, duty stationed at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The employee will be responsible for general maintenance for 12 leases that consist of a variety of structures. The main focus will be on the leases that are a part of the Rural Landscape Program, by the Park and its non-profit partner, Countryside. The Rural Landscape Program focuses on reviving the farming activity in the park. Eleven park farms are leased by NPS to private individuals providing sustainable farming operations that vary from a winery to a goat farm to a vegetable and fruit farm. Each farm includes multiple structures (residential and fields), and this position will be the day-to-day point of contact for the National Park Service responsibilities as the lessor. This position will be the lead for annual inspections; maintenance and repairs (responding to basic client job requests); work with the subject-matter-experts on higher level issues; and oversee work with a seasonal staff on seasonal projects. This position will be the main contact for the lessees and works on a collaborative management team that consists of business, resource management, and partner members.Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed and tools and equipment are properly maintained and safety stored. The employee oversees all building and utilities work including planning projects, general upkeep and ordering supplies and materials. Assists in planning and estimating time and material for projects and computerized maintenance systems. Employee is required to maintain up to date knowledge of carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. Assist in planning and implementing the job safety program for the building and utilities unit and the park. Employee will work in the field with the employees that they lead. Will serve as Project Inspector on construction contracts. Employee will use basic computer skills daily, such as Word Processing; Internet based communication and training; and Internet based Facility Management i.e. the Facility Management Software System (FMSS). Employee will perform FMSS data collection and input, by use of computer and hand held portable devices.

The park is predominately natural forest and meadow with some areas of agriculture and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. Winters are moderately cold with average temperatures in the 20 to 30 degree ranges. Heavy snowfall is not unusual. Summers are moderately warm, average temperatures in the high 70's and 80's with occasional warm spells in the 90's. Rural, suburban, and urban communities are all within a reasonable commuting distance.
