JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO), with one vacancy located in Denton, TX. MAJOR DUTIES: The incumbent will serve as a Physical Scientist. As a Physical Scientist you will perform the following duties: Provides direct support of Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Incident Management Assistance Teams (N-IMATs) to deliver expert weather, water, or climate decision support to team leads and interagency partners who have access to high-level decision-makers. Operates and maintains a weather, water, or climate workstation for ongoing situational awareness of environmental threats to the U.S. and its territories. Serve as technical expert, effectively applying consistent applications of National Incident Management System (NIMS) to lay the groundwork for efficient and effective responses, from a single agency fire response to multiagency, multijurisdictional natural disaster or terrorism response. Manages the conduct of complex innovative science requiring a very high degree of professional expertise to resolve critical operational problems.
