POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
The Solar Layout Engineer will work in concert with field teams to develop preliminary PV layout designs for solar utility scale projects. This position will be responsible for mentoring newer employees and helping to develop a preliminary design team.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop utility-scale PV layouts that will be utilized internally for estimating purposes
- Collaborate with field teams, estimators, and subject matter experts during layout creation to create Solar PV design packages, including solar array layouts, electrical one-lines, and equipment mounting details for utility-scale solar PV systems
- Determine optimal positions of the PV Equipment based on field needs while balancing costs
- Responsible for peer reviewing internal or external layouts to ensure quality control and provide recommendations for improvement as needed
- Read and interpret ALTA surveys and extract relevant information
- Read technical articles and attend solar PV training to stay informed with the latest design methodologies in the utility scale market
- Attend site visits to assess, notate and capture site photos of existing conditions to aid in the design
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Proficiency in PV design, and Autodesk AutoCAD
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong coordination, problem solving, documentation, and data entry skills
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code, a plus
- Knowledge of utility scale solar energy systems, a plus
- Knowledge of PVCase, a plus
