JOB SUMMARY: This is not a remote position. This position requires the employee to physically report to the New Jersey Water Science Center, located in Lawrenceville, NJ. Periodic telework may be approved. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Hydrologist (Groundwater Specialist) within the New Jersey Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Serve as a Groundwater Specialist for the New Jersey Water Science Center (WSC) and advise the center on technical matters related to groundwater measurements and data analysis. Provide quality assurance for the WSC groundwater programs and develops groundwater quality assurance plans, procedures, and documentation. Serve as a technical resource and liaison between the WSC and other USGS programs regarding quality assurance and new technologies related to groundwater data-collection methodologies, data analysis, and modeling. Instruct and advise others in the collection and processing of groundwater data collection and analysis methods including instrumentation, field methods, and data-processing systems. Evaluate groundwater related programs and projects with respect to quality assurance of field data-collection activities, records processing, groundwater modeling, data analysis, and reporting. Review of groundwater related project proposals and interpretative reports for technical soundness. Physical Demands: Field work involves periods of walking, bending, climbing, or driving motor vehicles to worksites. The work may also involve some overnight travel for training, meetings, and site visits. Work Environment: In addition to office duties, this position requires periodic field work. Field site visits are typically performed in either an outdoor setting subject to weather changes, diverse terrain, and safety hazards associated with working around complex features and/or construction, or an industrial setting subject to noise, fumes, and moving machinery.
