Project summary
VYCC’s Conservation Program engages young people in projects that benefit Vermont’s environment and communities by building recreation infrastructure, improving watershed health, and restoring/improving habitat. Vermont also faces significant environmental challenges, including a changing climate, by aligning the work of VYCC’s conservation crews with long-range management plans, we are helping to ensure that Vermont’s environment remains healthy and resilient.
Opportunity description
The work of a Conservation Crew Member includes trail construction and maintenance, carpentry, water quality improvement, and forest management. Conservation Crew Members efforts have a significant impact on habitat, water quality, and outdoor recreation in Vermont. Perform service safely in all weather conditions, including bringing all safety gear to the project site and using tools and equipment properly. There are two crews for this position including a Co-Ed Crew and a Queer Affinity Crew.

Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
Be at least 18 years old. Be a U.S. citizen, a national, or legal permanent resident non-citizen of the U.S.. Be a graduate or have a GED, or be willing to work towards completing one. be willing to undergo required background checks. Ability to perform strenuous physical work safely in all weather conditions. Ability to hike in steep or uneven terrain, lift and carry heavy tools, gear or materials. Eagerness for extensive camping with limited accommodations and support.
Preferred qualifications
No experience required. Vehicles are strongly encouraged for off-time transportation. Headquarters is not located in a walkable area with little to no public transit.
