Project summary

YouthWork crews complete conservation projects for partners across Michigan. We work in parks and recreation departments, National Park Service, US Forest Service, etc. We plant trees, build trails, remove invasive species, restore historic structures, improve parks, protect habitats and waterways, and more. All are welcome at YouthWork. As a mission-driven program, we proudly and deliberately recruit members with varying backgrounds, capabilities, experience, and skills.

Opportunity description

120+ YouthWork AmeriCorps Members serve on crews across Michigan and participate in daily service projects under the direction of their Crew Leader. Members will have a variety of duties/responsibilities which may include: trail development or rehab, waterway improvements/treatment, removal of invasive species, riparian habitat improvements, historic preservation, blight cleanup, improvements/repair/rehab of local public lands and parks, and other environmental and conservation projects.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

No experience or formal education is required. Position required being outside in various weather conditions including heat and rain, requires physical labor including heavy lifting, walking for long periods, and using tools and power equipment. Individuals from the Native American, BIPOC, LGBTQ, and disability communities are encouraged to apply.
