Project summary

The Service Corps is a structured, six-month full-time experience. Members serve on average four days a week in the field in service, and one day a week in classroom training. They gain hands-on experience through service as part of a Cohort. Service initiatives respond to needs in public housing communities, cultivating and distributing fresh produce, building sustainable green infrastructure, and reaching residents with programs. Initiatives also include visits and services with partners.

Service initiatives respond to needs in public housing communities, cultivating and distributing fresh produce, building sustainable green infrastructure, and reaching residents with sustainability programs. Initiatives also include visits and service with environmental partner organizations.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Be between the ages of 18-24. Currently live in a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) development or affordable/low-income housing. Have a GED or High School diploma. Be a U.S. citizen or have legal resident status. You cannot have more than 60 college credits or be enrolled in college full-time.

Preferred qualifications

Interest in sustainability, environmental justice, social justice, clean energy, food security, composting, clean energy, or willingness to explore green sectors.
