Project summary

Co-lead, supervise, transport, and mentor a team of 12  youth, ages 14-19, for seven weeks, from 7/8/24 to 8/23/24 (7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Before and after the crew dates, leaders will prepare for the program, conduct site visits, and complete administrative tasks.

Opportunity description

Co-lead, supervise, transport, and mentor a team of 12 youth, ages 14-19, for seven weeks. Leaders will prepare for the program, conduct site visits, and complete administrative tasks. During the program, leaders and crew members will complete hands-on conservation projects, potentially including trail construction and rehabilitation, general trail management, natural resource enhancements, and invasive species removal across multiple partner sites in the Seattle area.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Experience working with youth or young adults. Teaching or environmental education experience a plus. Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred, i.e. trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, carpentry, landscaping, gardening, etc. Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more.

Preferred qualifications

Must be able to attend Crew Leader training. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Must have the ability to work legally in the US. Must have a valid driver’s license for 3+ years and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets SCA standards. Must have personal housing arrangements in the Seattle metro area.
