American YouthWorks Conservation Corps Conservation Crews AmeriCorps Members ages 18+ will participate in environmental conservation projects in parks, green spaces, and public lands in Texas and the surrounding region. Members may serve as a resource for state and federal disasters. Members are eligible to receive an AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful program completion.
Opportunity description
The Texas Conservation Corps' Summer Program is an AmeriCorps opportunity for young adults 17+ to work with a crew on habitat restoration projects throughout Texas. These crews are open to current students, recent graduates, college students and young adults looking to spend a summer working on conservation projects throughout Texas. Led by two adult crew leaders, members will work on trail improvement and habitat restoration projects, and engage in environmental education.

Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
Between the ages of 17+ (crew members), 21+ (crew leaders). US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident. Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly and use hand and power tools. Crew Leaders have the following additional requirements of high School diploma or GED. clear 3-year driving record. prior experience in camping, backcountry travel, or related fieldwork. and ability to hike 3-12 miles per day in rugged terrain, often wearing a 45lb backpack and carrying tools
Preferred qualifications
Commitment to completing an entire term of service. Strong service ethic and desire to serve the community and the environment. Function as part of a team and be able to get along with members of all races, genders, political beliefs, religions, experience levels. Willingness to work long hours in all weather conditions.
