Engaging in AmeriCorps National Service with Rural Action is a chance to Get Things Done for your community, your world, and yourself! Rural Action's AmeriCorps program is about mobilizing energetic and passionate people to protect, conserve, and steward our natural resources; help to rebuild sustainable wealth, livelihoods, and prosperity; and provide you with the opportunities to find your place and purpose here on Earth.
Opportunity description
Rural Action mobilizes 70 AmeriCorps State/National members performing direct service in Appalachian Ohio to help educate youth and the public, restore, conserve, and preserve environmental resources, improve food distribution to people in poverty, support reduced waste and recycling initiatives, and support economic resilience through climate mitigation and sustainability projects. Rural Action ASN members serve a total of 1,700 hours of direct service, starting as early as August.

Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
Some ability to serve flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Some (not all) positions require the ability to hike extended distances over rough terrain. Access to transportation. At least 17 years of age. Must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
Preferred qualifications
Passion for the health of people and environment in Appalachian Ohio. Interest in climate mitigation and resilience work and serving Appalachian communities. Good communication and cooperation skills. Computer literacy and willingness to learn. General knowledge of Appalachian Ohio culture is preferred but not required.
