Project summary

CCC Corps Members perform service conservation work that focuses on forest health, fuel reduction, vegetation management, emergency response, wilderness and urban trails, salmon restoration, and wildland firefighting. A typical term of service is one year, but Corps Members can stay in the program for up to three years. Corps Members can also apply to partnered programs working in the backcountry, on energy projects, improving endangered fish habitat, and more.

Opportunity description

The CCC Wildland Firefighter Program offers Corps Members the opportunity to get paid while they train, earn certificates, and get hands-on experience on local and major wildland fires. The CCC partners with CAL FIRE and the federal Bureau of Land Management to operate wildland firefighting hand crews. Corps Members build fire breaks with hand tools and chain saws to slow and stop the spread of wildfires.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

In good physical condition and able to meet or work towards required fitness levels for wildland firefighting. Willing and able to engage in hard work in the outdoors in all conditions. Willing to work with diverse groups of individuals. Willing and able to respond to emergencies and be far away from home or assigned center for two weeks or longer.

Preferred qualifications

Interest in natural resource work and wildland firefighting or a general interest in pursuing training and education.
