Project summary

Members empower Iowa for a greener future through service, education and engagement. The program has a goal of engaging members, host sites, and community partners in environmentally focused direct service, education, community outreach, volunteer engagement, and professional development. These goals are achieved through a variety of activities unique to each community and the host site partnership. 

Opportunity description

Green Iowa AmeriCorps members engage in a wide variety of environmentally focused activities like environmental education lessons and community outreach, recruiting and engaging volunteers, residential energy efficiency services, developing Climate Action Plans & Greenhouse Gas Inventories, waste reduction strategies, tree planting, water and soil quality testing, conservation projects, and a focus on their own professional development. There are as many as 44 openings for this position.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: At minimum members must be  graduates, GED recipients, working on attaining a  High School diploma or GED during their term of service. Be 17 years or older (no upper age limit). Pass a national service criminal history check. Hold one of the following U.S. citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident. Have a valid driver’s license or other government issued photo identification.
