What you will do
Under general direction the Solar Project Development Engineer will contribute as a member of the project development team and is responsible for supporting and managing the technical proposal development and technical due diligence for solar and solar plus storage projects during the preliminary and development stages. The Solar Project Development Engineer functions as the primary technical expert and resource for projects under development. This includes the vetting of project specifications and requirements, providing technical support to the development team, and developing design documents, drawings, and cost estimates. In addition, the Solar Project Development Engineer will also provide performance modeling, incentive and interconnection management and over-project optimization inputs. Technically supports and takes a lead role in the development, engineering construction and testing phases of PV solar Projects. Provides conceptual and detailed designs of solar PV Projects including site layouts and annual energy yield estimates.
How you will do it
Supports PV project design for project stakeholders including development, construction procurement, and engineering.
Works with CAD designers, electrical and civil engineers through IFC final engineering on tasks including PV system basis of design, layouts and energy modeling assessments.
Performs solar engineering role to provide technical support on specific Projects including Project specification review, progress tracking, and working in an integration role for various technical disciplines.
Optimizes PV layouts for equipment, spacing, and shading efficiencies; including but not limited to setbacks from wetlands, town and state jurisdictions, ROWs and shading analysis of surrounding buildings, treelines, land elevation, and surrounding arrays during various times of the year.
Drafts, reviews and approves electrical single-line and three-line diagrams from PV arrays back to the main station bus. Drafts, reviews and approves energy yield calculations using energy simulation tools such as PVSYST.
Drafts, reviews and approves equipment specifications and engineering documents using templates and defined processes, identifying process improvements as appropriate.
Drafts, reviews and approves data analysis and performance testing results of constructed PV Projects.
Works to optimize PV system designs through the development, use and revision of engineering tools and processes.
Discusses and resolves technical issues with Project developers, engineers, procurement and construction teams, and design phase managers.
Represents the solar engineering team as technical subject matter expert on external calls with clients, independent engineers and suppliers.
Collaborates with solar engineering team members in decision making with clients, procurement and internal leadership on technical items that inform commercial design decisions and internal design risk management.
Supports creation of new templates: calculators, technical specifications, and test procedures.
Supports the review of contract exhibits, scopes of work and technical documentation related to design, commissioning, and performance of solar facilities.
Contributes to company-wide initiatives to drive continual improvements in efficiency, tools, processes, and execution.
Initiates and leads continuous improvement efforts for the Solar IE team, including leading tool development, process refinement, and lessons learned activities.
Supports company-wide Safety measures and incorporates safety principles into Project design.
Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action.
