Environmental Waste Specialist or Engineer
Please Note: This position will require you to travel to Georgia Power facilities across the state of GA up to 75% of the time, including some overnight travel (approximately 25%).

JOB SUMMARY
Georgia Power is hiring a Mid-Level Environmental Waste Specialist to join our Environmental Affairs Team. This role focuses on developing and applying waste compliance strategies for our operations. We are looking for someone detail-oriented, curious, and interested in continued career growth in the environmental waste and sustainability field. You will work closely with our team, regulators, consultants, and vendors.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct experience with regulations, training, and reporting requirements of RCRA, EPCRA, and DOT (HAZMAT & Transportation).
- Working knowledge of TSCA and CERCLA including SARA.
- Get and maintain environmental permits, licenses, and certifications.
- Maintain our waste guidance materials.
- Monitor environmental legislative and regulatory activities that impact company operations.
- Support personnel with waste compliance for our operations.
- Collaborate with our team to find and apply cost-effective environmental solutions.
JOB & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Over 5 years of environmental waste management.
- Understand environmental laws and regulations.
- Excellent writing and speaking skills; ability to explain technical details to both experts and non-experts.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule which may include non-traditional hours (occasional nights or weekends) and travel.
- Decision-making and problem-solving ability.
- Project and contract management a plus.
- A degree in engineering or science (biology, chemistry, environmental science).
- Experience in generation or power delivery and EMIS systems is a plus.

** This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
- Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
- Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
