We are looking to employ a full-time senior sustainable procurement and carbon manager to work within our consultancy division. They will work in the UK Infrastructure Team and be responsible for supporting both private and public sector clients, including a major infrastructure client in the Middle East. They will also be responsible for supporting business development opportunities and Mace’s sustainability strategy.

The role is for someone passionate about developing innovation and pushing the boundaries. You must be willing to travel to the Middle East occasionally.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Providing input into sustainable procurement strategies.
- Reviewing and scoring the sustainability sections of tender returns.
- Coordinating between the sustainability and procurement teams.
- Conducting market reviews and consultation exercises.
- Working with the supply chain to ensure sustainable solutions are available.
- Understanding, addressing, and reducing whole life CO2e emissions in major infrastructure projects.
- Attending client meetings and project review meetings to report outputs, issues and risks.
- Establishing strong, positive relationships with both existing and new clients and identifying opportunities for further work and support.
- Line managing individuals within the infrastructure team.
- Writing bid submissions and representing the infrastructure team in bid presentations.
- Supporting work winning/bidding with strong business acumen.
- Supporting the development of the carbon service offer across the business, including marketing/branding material and case studies.
- Delivering carbon/sustainable procurement training to the responsible business team and the wider business.
- Identifying and producing case studies to assist with communicating best practice and lessons learnt.
You’ll need to have\:
- Excellent knowledge of sustainable building design, including embodied and operational carbon and energy reduction, in new build and refurbishment projects, including programme, cost and operational impacts of NZC strategies.
- Management of a team of sustainability managers, and/or assistant sustainability managers.
- Proven track record of driving design teams to understand and respond to environmental constraints and opportunities to maximise positive environmental benefits.
- Expertise in one or more sustainability topics (waste, water, energy, carbon, responsible sourcing, building design, biodiversity, etc).
- Ability to translate technical topics into laypersons language and articulate the value of sustainability.
- Ability to represent Mace at relevant forums and through presentations to clients and working groups.
- Experience championing sustainability and being a leader, encouraging behavioural change throughout the business.
- Developing innovation and best practice, including clearly communicating these to the wider business and our clients.
- Ability to translate best EMS practices from one area to another. This includes analysing reporting needs in order to simplify the process.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with client and stakeholders including design team members, contractors, sub-contractors, and regulators.
- Digitally savviness.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Power Point and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience in procurement and carbon management on construction programmes.
- Construction or project management background.
