Job Description Qualifications:
Boeing’s presence in the UK is growing through our UK High-Lift Aerodynamics Collaboration Centre (HiLACC), based at the 5 metre wind tunnel at the Cody Technology Park, Farnborough, UK. The HiLACC Flight Sciences team is a direct extension of the Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Flight Sciences team in Everett, WA, USA.
The role on offer is for a 3-month summer Sustainability and Aerodynamics Engineering Intern to start in June/July 2024 supporting the Flight Sciences work at the HiLACC in collaboration with Boeing Sustainability and Future Mobility (S&FM). The intern will be actively involved in contributing to sustainability and aerodynamics research in areas including (among others):
- Operational effieincy and data analysis.
- Future aircraft sustainability research
- Low-speed aerodynamic testing.
- Development and utilisation of analytical predictive capabilities (such as CFD, etc).
- Analysing high-lift aerodynamic performance.

Position Responsibilities:
Support the processing and understanding of data relating to aircraft operation efficiency.
Assist in ongoing sustainability work in collaboration with Boeing S&FM.
Understand the array of predictive capabilities utilised in the aerodynamic design of aeroplanes.
Assist in some of the research and development projects ongoing at the HiLACC in areas such as:
Understand the need for wind tunnel testing and provide some support for any ongoing tests and the related data analysis.
Learn and start to utilise predictive capabilities such as CFD to understand flow phenomena in aeroplane design and wind tunnel testing.
Actively participate in group meetings and technical discussions.
Due to the nature of the role and HiLACC team, the role is primarily based onsite.
Essential Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
A passion for sustainability and aerodynamics
An aptitude for problem-solving with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
Strong attention to detail with a high focus on quality
Confident, with a willingness to present at meetings
Effective communication skills
