Job Summary:
The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), an established Capitol Hill Quaker lobbying organization, is seeking a Summer Intern to work on our Sustainable Energy and Environment portfolio. The Summer Intern for the Sustainable Energy and Environment Program supports the lobbying and advocacy efforts of the team. The Summer Intern will also support the team in engaging with the wider Quaker community on energy and environmental policy issues.
Essential Job Duties (other duties may be assigned)
- Assist lobbyist and program assistant in lobbying Congressional offices and the administration on FCNL’s energy and environment policy priorities.
- Schedule and plan for interviews with international stakeholders on the forefront of addressing the climate crisis.
- Participate in internal departmental meetings as well as external coalition meetings.
- Support the planning of quarterly engagement calls with FCNL’s grassroots network.
- Work on additional projects as requested.
Minimum Required Job Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED
Experience and Skills
- Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Exceptional ability to take detailed notes accurately and efficiently.
- Interest in learning about congressional advocacy and its impact on environmental and energy issues.
- Experience drafting professional agendas and email invitations.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Experience
- Prior experience with congressional advocacy.
- Familiarity with advocacy toolkits and action alerts.
- Experience with grassroots organizing or community engagement initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Project management experience.

- Frequently required to sit for long periods of time
Compensation & Work Expectations
- FCNL offers an hourly rate of $17.00 for the eight-week internship
- This is a full-time nonexempt position, based on a 37.5-hour workweek. This person is expected to work in-person 3 days a week with the option to telework up to 2 days a week.

In addition to working closely with a professional staff member at FCNL, interns will have opportunities to participate in lobbying, organizing and policy events.
Summer Interns may be asked to attend Quaker programming, including Silent Reflection, in order to meet and connect with Quaker constituents. There is no requirement to worship at these gatherings.
