The Regulatory Policy Audit and Investigation unit, within the Environmental Protection Branch serves to maintain quality environmental standards, sustainable development, and economic and social benefits for our present and future generations. To assist this goal, we are seeking a multi-talented individual to fill the position of our Senior Environmental Investigator.
Reporting to the Investigations and Policy Team Lead you will:
- Provide direction as a subject matter expert on environmental compliance activities;
- Develop strategies for addressing complex environmental issues;
- Plan and lead environmental investigations, and assist in complex inspections or audits of permitted facilities such as industrial, mining and waste management facilities;
- Negotiate with provincial, federal government agencies, ministries, and national interest groups to develop policy and position papers;
- Research, develop and implement environmental policies;
- Contribute to compliance, engagement and action planning for the branch and ministry;
- Assist in environmental compliance and action strategy development, and
- Represent the branch on provincial and federal working/task groups and committees.
The ideal candidate will have technical knowledge of environmental compliance assurance. You will be assertive, innovative, cooperative, respectful, persuasive, logical and a reliable collaborative team player with excellent communication skills. You identify, develop, and implement processes and policies to resolve issues through research, interpretations and evaluating evidence, and make applications to the intent of legislation and regulations or situations with limited or no precedents, policies or facts. You will also possess knowledge in the following:
- Environmental issues from industrial, mining and waste management facilities which may cause impacts to human health and the environment;
- Legislation, regulations, agreements, policies, guidelines, principles, processes and enforcement strategies relevant to environmental protection and compliance assurance;
- Investigative techniques, methods and practices, coupled with interviewing and negotiation skills and techniques;
- Research methods and techniques; and
- Accurately input, edit and retrieve information, evidence and data, using various databases, systems and computer programs.
