The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a summer Intern to support the study and development of regional plans for transit-oriented development, parking management, economic development, and coordination of land-use development with multimodal transportation such as bicycle and pedestrian facilities. This position includes collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to help develop insights and create maps, reports, and presentations. This internship will provide valuable experience in planning for livability and multimodal transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting with the collection, processing, and analysis of land-use, transportation, and demographic data
- Assisting with field visits to document infrastructure conditions, count parking utilization, and perform other travel observations as needed
- Assisting with the creation and editing of maps, and processing of spatial and tabular data using Geographic Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS Pro)
- Compiling and summarizing studies and writing reports
- Preparing, for supervisor review, presentation slides, public outreach content, and education materials
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS Pro)
- Familiarity with publicly available data sources such as US Census
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
- Strong analytical skills, with ability to identify data discrepancies
- Ability to assess trends, interpret communications, compile documentation, and summarize findings
- Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
Starting Salary
Minimum of $16.00 per hour
The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by, and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. NCTCOG's purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions. Since 1974, NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
