The Senior Environmental Engineer will be ultimately responsible for providing regulatory expertise and coaching of environmental processes that happen at and around the ArcelorMittal Texas HBI plant. This person will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that assist in mitigating the risk of the plant’s environmental factors of the surrounding environment. The Senior Environmental Engineer will support all departments in making environmental decisions.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Knows, understands, follows, and reviews all Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and requirements
- Takes all divisional and corporate standards of ArcelorMittal into consideration
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and quarterly/ monthly forecasts regarding financial results, and report variances.
- Communicating with local, state, and federal agencies and officials to ensure compliance of environmental laws and regulations
- Collaborating with department managers to determine appropriate measures in developing solutions of environmental issues and/or concerns
- Coordinate the collection and testing environmental samples; such as water, soil, and air samples
- Conduct environmental impact assessments, site investigations, and risk assessments to identify potential environmental issues and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Conduct regular environmental monitoring and sampling, analyze data, and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Constant review of new or updated laws and regulations passed by local, state, and federal agencies and updating personnel of these changes.
- Creating new processes to protect the safety of employees and the surrounding environment by researching and designing plans on the prevention, control, and cleanup of hazards that will affect the environment
- Verifying any hazardous chemicals; labeling, handling, and disposing of these chemicals appropriately and within company and government laws and regulations
- Create, update, and implement necessary training to ensure company-wide environmental compliance
- Perform compliance audits with all departments
- Implement KSF’s for companywide compliance
- Perform emission calculations for excursions and submit report accordingly
- Reporting any and all environmental incidents to the TCEQ
- Ensuring environmental standards are being followed throughout the plan
- Ensure scheduling compliance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental studies or similar degree with approx. 5 years of experience in an environmental role, management experience strongly preferred
- Must have working knowledge of SPCC, SWPPP, waste management systems, Title V, chemical hygiene and handling plans, as well as reporting systems of the TCEQ.
- Experience with ISO 14001 is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Experience working with the EPA and TCEQ
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing. Skills will be used to produce quality reports and thorough instructions and directions.
- Must be able to walk long distances and stand and work for more than 2 hours in tough environmental conditions (high temperature, high humidity, noise, & dust), and withstand heights of up to 500 feet.
