JOB SUMMARY: This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area may pay a recruitment or relocation incentive for the applicant(s) selected. The incentive may be up to 25% of the annual rate of pay, multiplied by the number of years in the service period (up to 4 years, depending on the length of the service agreement.) MAJOR DUTIES: The incumbent will serve as the Lees Ferry District Ranger. Manages a complex protection operation involving visitor services, law enforcement, criminal investigations, emergency medical services, search and rescue operations, aviation operations, wilderness program and resource monitoring and protection activities. Provides policy guidance and direction on a variety of visitor and resource protection program activities for the assigned district. Deals directly with a diverse group of agencies and organizations including representative of local, State, Federal, and tribal governments. Incumbent performs full supervisory responsibilities (including those related to Equal Opportunity and Employee Relations) for seasonal, temporary, and permanent staff as well as volunteers and other personnel, both directly and indirectly. Lees Ferry District Area Information: Lees Ferry is located 45 miles from Page, Arizona and 130 miles from Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Lees Ferry looks out on beautiful Colorado River which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Lees Ferry is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches, and Canyonlands. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, museums, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12, and college courses through Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100 degrees in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year.
