The major duties of the Engineering Equipment Operator position include, but are not limited to, the following:
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected.
The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

Physical Demands: Incumbent frequently lifts, carries and moves items of various sizes and shapes weighing over 60 pounds and is on feet a lot of the time, frequently standing, walking, climbing, bending and stooping.
Working Conditions: Incumbent primarily works outside, temperature ranging from 0 degrees in winter to 100 degrees in summer, in all kinds of weather conditions (day or night) and is subject to loud noises, gasoline fumes, dust, ease, tar, and soiling of clothing and skin surfaces from heavy equipment, air tools and materials used. Measurable time is spent working with hot mixed asphalt materials which have temperatures in excess of 300 degrees making an extremely uncomfortable working environment during the hot summer months. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones in performance of duties as work areas are frequently crowded with pedestrians, bicyclists, parked automobiles and at times near moving vehicles.

Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
