Innovation Engineer, Sustainability Lead

The Helix Innovation Center’s Innovation Engineer, Sustainability Lead will explore delivering new technology as we seek to disrupt an industry with little change over the last 100+ years! There is a strong and dedicated multi-functional team at our Dayton, OH Innovation Center looking to collaborate on opportunities that drive new value for Copeland.
AS AN INNOVATION ENGINEER, SUSTAINABILITY LEAD YOU WILL:
- Engage with external and internal partners to drive the HVACR industry into a sustainable future:
- Lead multi-disciplined PhD- Level teams to identify and develop solutions that introduce not-in-kind technology to the HVACR industry.
- Apply expertise in diverse scientific principles and thermal systems
- Simulate or model performance of new HVACR systems and architectures
- Identify patterns across the industry that create strategic opportunities
- Demonstrate your deep understanding of underlying technology to collaborate with the multi-functional team at the Helix Innovation Center to balance the Technology requirements with Business needs and Customer demands of an opportunity.
- Network with Industry Leaders to understand and articulate latest trends, offerings and insights.
- Translate industry trends and government regulations into opportunities that uniquely solve multifaceted problems in HVACR.
- Educate teams across Copeland on relevant Insights and Opportunities as the Domain Expert for Sustainable solutions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Engineering Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 5-10 years of relevant thermal science application or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills in research and/or product development environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and proven ability to apply creative thinking to new problems
- Passionate Learner across a variety of fields
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong project management skills and the ability to work with both internal and external resources
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and excellence in developing strong collaborative relationships
- Ability to travel 10-15%
- Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Engineering Master’s degree or equivalent experience and/or Engineering PhD
- Experience with DOE sponsored CRADA and FOA projects
- Experience with approaching problems with Design Thinking or Lean Startup Methodologies
- Experience with GT Suite or similar dynamic modeling
- Startup or Entrepreneurial Experience
- Experience and Understanding of Refrigerants impacting the HVACR industry
- Active participation within industry organizations such as AHRI, ASHRAE, etc
Flexible Work Schedule – Remote Work Option and Core Hours
This role has the flexibility of a remote work option up to three days a week and a core hour schedule. You can choose to flex your start and stop times given you are working during the core hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm. Our teams work together to ensure our chosen work schedules enable our creativity and productivity as we serve the needs of our customers. This role is open for relocation!

The Helix Innovation center is a 40,000-square-foot facility located on the University of Dayton’s campus in Dayton, Ohio. The Helix Center includes four, full-scale, simulated environments including a working commercial kitchen, a two-story residential home, a grocery store, and a light commercial building. The Helix Innovation Center is advancing research and education for the global HVACR industry by simulating how our products directly impact the industry, and through our innovation and research to continuously improve the food safety and quality for consumers, from farm to fork.
