Position Title: Environmental Health & Safety Compliance Manager

Pay: $140,000 – 160,000 annually

The Environmental Compliance Manager will play a leading role to set strategies and oversee operations in the organization's environmental compliance function, which ensures adherence to laws, regulations, or standards governing organizational impact on the environment.
This position is responsible for establishing policies for the Safety department to implement safety training and education that will create and maintain a safe workplace. Evaluates, assesses, and alters safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employees partnering with the Safety Manager. Understand requirements and maintain correct environmental permitting for environmental requirements while identifying and supporting energy and waste reduction initiatives.
This position will be primarily responsible for:
Environmental
- Interprets legislation or pending legislation and develops strategies for ensuring organizational compliance.
- Conducts periodic tests, audits, or inspections of organizational processes or facilities and reports findings to management. Oversees collection and analysis of environmental samples, reviews interpretation of findings, and suggests and oversees implementation of corrective actions or risk mitigation strategies.
- Administers policies and procedures that ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards governing organizational impact on the environment.
- Maintains records of discharge of or any employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
- Develops and delivers environmental compliance-related training sessions.
- Investigates allegations of compliance violations by employees or company representatives.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies, standards, and laws (including OSHA, EPA, etc.), including but not limited to:
- Wastewater Discharge Permit, Air Permit, Solid Waste Disposal
- Hazardous Chemical Programs, RMP, PSM, HAZCOM
- Blood borne pathogens, Accident and Illness, Heat Stress, Hearing Loss
- Safety permits such as (LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, etc.)
- Oversee the applications for and receipt of necessary permits.
- Lead and Implement Projects to reduce landfill, CO2 emissions, electricity/water usage.
- Ownership of activities around sustainability, including (but not limited to) energy reduction, recycling, zero landfill, reducing waste, etc.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Health and Safety
- Working closely with the Safety Manager, develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines and best practices.
- Prepare and implement policies to establish and maintain a culture of health and safety.
- Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to Stanislaus safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor compliance with all Stanislaus Food Products’ health and safety policies by inspecting operations.
- Inspect, observe and keep record of equipment and machinery to identify and prevent unsafe conditions.
- Investigate accidents or incidents as needed to discover root causes.
- Recommend solutions to issues and identify improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Initiate accident prevention measures alongside the Safety Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
- A. or B.S. Degree in environmental health and safety, business, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of relatable experience.
- Solid understanding of health and safety laws and regulations including EPA, OSHA, and other relevant governmental bodies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to create content and deliver group training.
- Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint with an ability to generate system reports good knowledge of data analytics and risk assessment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and prevent hazards.
- Ability to train, motivate and influence team members.
- Ability to work independently, in a fast-paced environment.
- Available to work seven (7) days a week during tomato harvest season. Tomato season typically begins Mid-July and lasts through early October (which is approximately 11 weeks). For the months of October through December, this role will work day shift 4 days a week with the Reward Time Program. For the months of January through early July, the position works day shift 5 days a week preparing for the next packing season.
