GAI Consultants is seeking a Senior Project Environmental Specialist to support environmental task management, permitting, and field studies out of our Green Bay, Wisconsin office. Field work will be geographically focused in southern Wisconsin. Preferred candidates are within the vicinity of the Madison and Milwaukee metropolitan areas. Hybrid or remote arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide task lead experience related to environmental reviews, permitting, and compliance monitoring primarily for energy projects located in Wisconsin.
- Conduct wetland and waterway field reviews, endangered resource field reviews, and other environmental field studies, primarily for energy projects located in Wisconsin.
- Review and prepare soil erosion and sediment control plans in collaboration with engineering staff.
- Interface with government agencies, clients, and construction contractors regarding field identification of sensitive resources, interpretation of environmental permits and regulations, and compliance concerns.
- Complete site inspections to monitor soil erosion and sediment control and overall environmental compliance for projects in construction and restoration.
- Complete high quality technical reports to document field observations and analysis.
- Assist with the completion of and management over the preparation of permit applications and associated environmental reporting.
- Assist with the coordination of interdisciplinary work teams and overall task management of environmental project reviews.
- Provide status and progress reports to clients, project teams, and management.
- Assist with mentorship and direction of junior environmental staff.
- Other duties assigned by Supervisor.
Job Qualifications (Experience, Essential Education, and Skills Needed):
- MS or BS in environmental related sciences.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with environmental reviews and permitting. Specific experience in the consulting industry is preferred.
- Completion of a 40-hour wetland delineation training course is recommended.
- Must be able to prepare and complete reports summarizing field procedures, observations, and results.
- This role will be 40% field-based work and 60% office-based work.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime.
- Strong technical writing ability.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work for oneself and junior environmental staff.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Must be able to travel, including overnight trips.
- A current Driver's License is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, utility rights-of-way, in remote areas, etc.
- Ability to hear and visualize potential hazards during fieldwork or site visit situations.
