Role Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer as a key member of our senior management team, you will act as a strategic partner and advisor, accountable for the development and execution of environment, social and governance (ESG) objectives, sustainability initiatives and lead on the creation and delivery of our annual sustainability Power for Good report.
You will coordinate RES’ efforts in embedding sustainability into the business, promoting, and supporting our sustainability agenda, principles and objectives, and communicating our Power for Good culture to all stakeholders. You will be a key communicator internally and externally and subject matter expert liaison with our clients and senior leaders on ESG matters.
Key Accountabilities
Sustainability Strategy and Initiatives, Planning and Execution
- Work with the CM&CO in developing and driving sustainability strategy, critical initiatives and programs that span across the global organisation
- Set and lead ESG strategy while balancing other initiatives and priorities of the organisation
- Support the leadership team in defining, articulating, and tailoring initiatives in accordance with company-wide objectives
- Coordinate research for key projects, including, but not limited to, net-zero reduction programme opportunities, innovation opportunities, supply chain engagement and decarbonisation processes
ESG Thought Leader
- Represent RES at external ESG-related events and conferences
- Advise on way-forward for our net-zero strategy and beyond value-chain mitigation approach
- Analyse ESG data to validate data resolution and implement efficient data collection improvements
- Understand technical and environmental aspects of sustainability to advise on internal and external relevant projects e.g. supply chain deep-dives, site-based deep-dives in construction, decommissioning and end-of-life activities (e.g. recycling turbine blades)
- Advise leaders on overall ESG market trends and strategic approach
- Navigate and align RES to suitable ESG disclosure frameworks and voluntary standards
Project Management
- Manage complex projects with varied timescales
- Be empowered to identify and implement sustainable initiatives that reduce costs
- Drive and own adoption and execution of sustainability objectives
- Manage net-zero targets setting, baseline and reduction programme in alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative
- Lead and improve the emissions data collection and manage emissions reduction performance
- Support management and external reporting on key climate-related risks and opportunities and climate-related financial disclosure
- Promote operational excellence: identify and drive opportunities to optimise our organisational systems, ESG data collection and processes with a focus on agility through integration of ESG software reporting tools and the Enterprise Resource Planning System
Communications, Collaboration and Campaigns
- Accountable for delivery of annual sustainability report
- Raise awareness of RES ESG policies/events and collect and share information with group and collaborate with country leads on sustainability/environmental initiatives
- Engage with internal stakeholders to embed sustainability into all business areas and develop channels of communication on key issues
- Influence and lead Global Sustainability Network without direct lines of responsibility
- Build internal network with key stakeholders, e.g. HSQE, Procurement, Communications teams…, who are passionate about and engage with the sustainability agenda
- Support teams internally and in external engagement with clients to help deliver ESG services and support tender responses
Knowledge, Skills, Experience
- Substantial, relevant experience in sustainability professions
- Consistent record of delivering results
- A deep understanding of ESG landscape, regulatory and compliance frameworks, governance, trends, supply chain impacts and standard methodologies including emissions reporting
- Experience in working closely with and presenting to executive-level leadership
- Relevant sector experience in energy, infrastructure development and construction, operations and maintenance service or industrial sectors.
- Renewable energy or institutional investor experience beneficial
- Experience of sustainability reporting and non-financial disclosure in highly professional environment
- Ability to learn quickly within a fast-paced team, including highly technical topics
- Strong organisational and project management skills with flexibility to prioritise
- Intellectual curiosity paired with a high growth-mindset
