Job Description
AECOM is looking for a Safety, Health & Environment Supervisor to manage and administer the EHS program for our client's Peterborough Site. This includes implementing the internal EHS Framework to ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements and best practices. This is a Full-time role seconded to our client in Peterborough, ON.
The role combines both environmental, and worker health and safety elements and is primarily focused on the Peterborough Site. The role may also provide support to other satellite offices/workers in the Ontario and Canada region.
The Safety, Health & Environment Supervisor reports operationally to the local site leader and functionally to the business Safety, Health & Environment Leader.
Responsibilities:
Worker Health and Safety Responsibilities:
- Manage the internal Health and Safety Program including performing formal audits and reviews to ensure program compliance and accuracy.
- Lead and support the closure of actions identified during proactive audits and or as the result of an investigation.
- Acquire and communicate Safety, Health & Environment performance metrics and KPI’s to the local team (including the JHSC) and to senior leadership during Safety, Health & Environment reviews.
- Update Site Safety, Health & Environment policies, procedures, documents, and training based on internal requirements and/or regulatory changes as required. Develop new safety policies and procedures when required.
- Conduct hazard risk assessments at the site to ensure proper mitigation plans are in place and to identify and implement risk reduction projects.
- Ensure risks are properly communicated to employees and/or contractors before performing work.
- Provide Safety, Health & Environment support on all site related activities, including reviewing contractor proposals, safe work plans, and work permits. In addition, perform safety audits in contractor work areas.
- Take a leadership role on the Emergency Response Team (ERT) to ensure procedures are in place and practiced in the case of an unplanned event.
Environmental Program Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Site Environmental Programs including the monitoring and reporting requirements both internally and externally.
- Conduct routine audits and inspections to ensure all environmental programs and plans are being implemented as required.
- Perform risk assessments to identify potential gaps and opportunities for improvement on all environmental programs (air, water, waste, soils, etc.).
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree or college diploma in occupational health and safety or other relavent field of study.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the field of Environmental Health and Safety in an industrial and/or construction setting.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certificate or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Certification is preferred such as: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Strong understanding of the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other regulatory requirements (CSA, TSSA, EPA, etc.)
- Health and Safety Program experience such as electrical safety, lock out tag out, hot work, working at heights, confined space, hazardous materials and designated substances, etc.
- Environmental Program experience such as managing air/water/waste permit requirements, executing regulatory instructions, and working with regulatory bodies
- Experience working in the construction industry including working with regulated building materials and safe work procedures
- Experience implementing and auditing EHS programs including using various tools and software
- Past participation on employee Safety, Health & Environment committees including but not limited to: Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Incident Investigation Team (IIT), etc.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
