We have an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety and Environment Manager to join the team within the Leonardo Helicopters Division.

Reporting to the Head of UK Enterprise Governance, The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager will act as the ‘HSE conscience’ advising the Managing Director, Leonardo Helicopters (UK) and Senior Leadership Team members on HSE issues.
You will be responsible for the day to day legislative and certification activities of HSE by facilitating, in synergy with other functional leads, the resolution of HSE issues as they arise.
You will lead and develop a team of professionals to drive continuous improvement of an engaged HSE culture throughout LH (UK).
This is a level 9 position on our internal Salary and Career Progression Framework (S&CPF).
KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Establish and review at least annually a documented integrated Health, Safety and Environment Policy and Major Accident Prevention Policy.
- Inform the Managing Director LH (UK), other senior managers of significant HSE issues.
- Establish a documented Health Safety and Environmental Operating System that defines the structure for the management of health, safety and the environment within LHUK.
- Identify, analyse and communicate emerging HSE issues and risks through feedback from user groups and other sources of HSE intelligence.
- Establish and review documented procedures which allow LHUK to conduct its activities in compliance with UK and where necessary EU Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Develop, maintain and report on a LHUK Health, Safety and Environmental legal, risk and opportunities register.
- Manage, review, amend, develop continual improvement of and maintain external certification to ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 standards to maintain legal compliance, underpin the LHUK HSE Management system and ensure its effective communication to internal and external stakeholders including all appropriate regulatory bodies.
- Work with LGS UK colleagues to maintain certification to ISO 50005:2018
- Provide and manage a team of Safety and Environment Technical Professionals able to respond to HSE issues and provide, advice, training and governance across all LHUK sites
- Ensure LHUK legal compliance in terms of Exposure Monitoring, water system management, Legionella risk assessment, LEV system thorough examination and test (TExT), asbestos survey and assessment, Noise and Vibration Assessment, DSEAR Assessment and environmental monitoring through an extended enterprise of suppliers and subject matter experts.
- Carry out the role of appointed/competent person for water management, asbestos management, and DSEAR management for LHUK.
- Manage the departmental process review to provide assurance on the effectiveness of the HSE management system
- Ensure that HSE objectives and targets are assigned and monitored and where necessary recommend remedial activities to the HSE Strategy Committee when desired outcomes are not achieved.
- Provide advice across the business on the Health, Safety and Environment Operating Manual (HSEOM) and other top-level HSE related matters.
- Acting when there are non-conformances specifically against any Managing Director, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to close them down.
- Assist, when required, in preparing any member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for meetings with HSE related regulators.
- Co-Chair of the HSE Strategy Committee.
- Responsible for authoring and managing the LH UK HSEOM.
- Promote the importance of all aspects of safety and ensuring that a strong and proactive ‘safety culture’ is communicated throughout the organisation; defining training programmes or other means of ensuring that this ethos is deployed, achieved and developed.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Educated to degree level or equivalent with strong HSE or audit background with experience within an Aerospace and Manufacturing environment.
- Confident and accomplished communicator with influencing skills.
- Trained in effective Event Review Group.
- Experience of applying quality procedures and systems within an Aerospace environment.
- Broad knowledge of certification standards
- Integrity and professional approach, who is both self-willed and confident.
- Knowledge and use of root cause analysis tools.
- Broad knowledge of the business organisation.
- Thorough working understanding of occurrence reporting systems.
