Brief Statement of Duties |
Brief Statement of Duties: |
Teach undergraduate courses for the Indoor and Controlled Environment Agriculture program. Course topics that may be taught and assessed include (but are not limited to): Indoor Farming Foundations, Indoor Living Environments, Innovative Growing Systems, Future Farmers, CEA Building Systems, Commercial Crop Production, Produce Safety Risk Management, CEA Commercial Property Development. Course delivery will be in both lecture and lab settings for 100, 200, 300, and 400-level courses. Additional duties include student advising, laboratory and equipment inventory and maintenance, career placement assistance, course and curriculum development, committee assignments, coordination with alumni and potential industry donors, applied research or other scholarly activities, membership in professional organizations, and application of technology in a learning environment. This is a campus-based position. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Required Education: |
Master's Degree |
Discipline / Degree Area: |
Controlled Environment Agriculture, Biology, or equivalent with emphasis in Plant Biology. |
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: |
Teaching experience in a hydroponics and aquaponics lab which includes assembling equipment, maintaining equipment, and troubleshooting equipment issues. |

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: |
Strong understanding of indoor growing systems and methods. Thorough knowledge of plant biology. Teaching and/or training experience at the university level (or equivalent industry experience) Ability to develop new curriculum, write proposals, work on grants, etc. Diplomatic, cooperative, and able to work well with a variety of stakeholders. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. |

Additional Desirable Qualifications: |
Work and/or experience with various indoor growing systems and associated technologies, with an emphasis in plant biology, microbiology, botany, chemistry (or medicinal plant chemistry), agriculture, or similar. Training and/or experience specifically with Freight Farms container farms. Experience with lab environment safety, operations, and equipment maintenance. Proven success with building strong student relationships. Experience with building and mechanical systems. Experience with microbial and tissue culture, specifically fungi. Entrepreneurial business experience. Experience operating aquaponic/aquaculture systems. Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training certificate. Experience in holistic and plant-based wellness industries including cannabis. |
