In this position, the coordinator assists in overseeing the operations of Sustain SU’s projects and their associated programming. The position is responsible for volunteer recruitment, training, evaluation, and support, as well as Sustain SU-wide resource management, statistics, and assessment.
This is a temporary position with a planned end date of April 2025. This position works full-time from May to August at 37.5 hours per week, and then part-time at 20 hours per week from September to April.

Core Duties
- Ensure effective operation of Sustain SU’s sustainability services, including the Bike Library & Workshop, Campus Gardens, Green for Good Market and their associated programming.
- Assist with the Bike Library & Workshop’s day-to-day operations, including administrative and sales roles, and overall maintenance of the space.
- Lead the recruitment, training, and management of Sustain SU volunteers.
- Assist with the coordination of volunteers as they operate sustainability-related services, events and awareness campaigns.
- Facilitate volunteer and leadership team meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta, enrolled in at least one course in each of the fall and winter sessions during the term of employment;
- General academic and non-academic understanding of the University of Alberta;
- Eligible to work in Canada (including students who are in Canada on a study permit);
- The ability to work on-site at our offices at the University of Alberta’s North Campus, in Edmonton, Alberta;
- Availability to work varying hours, including possible evenings and weekends during the contract.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience and/or a demonstrated interest in sustainability;
- Experience leading volunteers, committees, meetings, and/or training sessions;
- Previous experience in event and program planning;
- Previous experience in gardening on a small or large scale, including fruits, vegetables and/or perennials;
- Previous retail experience, such as basic cash and inventory management experience;
- Previous experience with customer service, including in-person, on the phone, and over email;
- Ability to work independently;
- Strong administration and organization skills;
- Experience with relevant technology including Google Apps, (especially Google Sheets, Docs, and Forms), ActiveCampaign (or similar newsletter host technology), and eClass.
