SUMMARY
This position will provide environmental and safety support to the operations and will partner with management to establish and maintain programs to ensure compliance with corporate, federal, state regulatory requirements as well as foster an injury/illness free culture.
This role requires a focused and dedicated individual that manages their time efficiently in order to meet all standard work and regulations requirements (i.e. inspections, sampling events, incident investigations, audits, etc.). This role is significant to the sustainability of the California Operations. Site leadership depends on the E&S Specialist to recognize, identify, prevents and effectively communicates any safety and environmental risks/hazards. This role will require a commitment to drafting, implementing, auditing, and improving
standard work.The E&S specialist must possess soft skills as it is necessary to building an engaging workforce, as well as have the ability to identify individual’s communication and learning styles accordingly. Managing E&S programs requires fostering a strong commitment to Continuous Improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety
- Coach and develop Team Leads and Supervisors to foster a growing safety culture
- Maintain training program including tracking team member certifications and taking action to ensure training stays current
- Conduct initial and annual quantitative fit tests
- Coordinate Lead-in-Air sampling events, log lab result data, and communicate results with team members
- Conduct safety inspections (Eyewash Stations, Ladder, AED, etc.)
- Provide general awareness safety training and where applicable function specific training
- Issue initial and maintenance of safety shoe voucher and monitor the eligibility of team members thereafter
- Issue initial and maintenance of prescription eyewear vouchers and monitor the eligibility of team members
- Generate and distribute weekly safety training topic as well as monitor the performance of Team Lead and Supervisors completing the weekly safety training and maintain safety recordkeeping
- Track open corrective actions targeting a minimum of 90% completion rate
- Lead incident investigations to seek root cause and effective corrective and preventive as well as maintain recordkeeping database for logging incident investigations
- Chair the Employee Safety Committee and Co-Chair the Leadership Safety Committee
- Process requisitions for department supplies including safety incentives
- Participate in periodic safety program internal audits
- Keep apprised of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company
- Aide in the development and continuous improvement of company visual work instructions including incorporating safety precautions
- Responsible for effective communication of safety policies and practices and to investigate and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe practices
- Conduct weekly housekeeping inspection
- Act as liaison between California OSHA and Trojan
- Follow ISO 9001 procedures and track safety & environmental inspections and revisions for ISO compliance
- Manage Safety Data Sheet inventory via online portal and evaluate all potential new chemicals for proper storage, handling, use, exposure requirements
- Participate as a member of the emergency response team
- Draft weekly goals and targets and present to HS Manager
- Responsible in improving all safety operational processes
- Comply with all Safety and governmental rules
Environmental
- Conduct daily, weekly, and/or monthly environmental inspections
- Conduct monthly environmental equipment validation tests
- Perform periodic total preventative maintenance and housekeeping to all environmental equipment and systems
- Coordinate and monitor service providers conducting environmental testing
- Prepare air pollution treatment systems for annual environmental testing
- Participate in the compiling of Toxic Release Inventory reports
- Participate in the compiling and submittal of Air Emissions Reports
- Conduct monthly and sample event storm water observations including periodic validation of Best Management Practices (BMPs)
- Conduct storm water sampling
- Lead Storm Water Pollution Prevention and Monitoring Team
- Conduct annual storm water inspection/audit
- Compile and submit ad-hoc storm water report via electronic portal
- Compile and submit annual storm water report via electronic portal
- Conduct weekly hazardous waste inspections
- Coordinate the shipment of hazardous waste
- Generate, execute, submit generator hazardous waste manifests as well as maintain recordkeeping
- Compile Hazardous Waste Minimization reports (SB-14)
- Participate in environmental program reviews
- Act as liaison between environmental agencies and Trojan
- Strong knowledge in environmental equipment such as Filter press. Wastewater treatment, dust collectors, airflow systems, storm water equipment, filtration systems
QUALIFICATIONS
To
Basic knowledge and understanding of the following Safety Programs:
- Life Safety Programs: Control of Hazardous Energy, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Machine Guarding, and Powered Industrial Trucks
- Lead (Pb) Safety and Health
- Behavior Base Safety
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Environmental Programs:
- SCAQMD Rules preferred: 1420.2, 1420, 1147, and 1415
- General Industrial Storm Water Permit
- Hazardous Waste Generator Rules
- Certified Unified Program Agency compliance requirements
- Basic attributes a successful candidate may possess:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years equivalent experience in a similar role
- Associate of Science degree in Environmental and Occupational Safety and/or Environmental and/or Mechanical and/or Civil Engineer or related field
- Proficient in English.
- Bilingual Spanish is strongly preferred
- Excellent general math skills
- Data Analytics
- First aid/CPR Trained preferred
- Must be willing to obtain continuing education and advanced certificates
