Sustainability Student Employees (SSEs) are committed to making sustainability an integral part of the UVA community. The student employees work in five teams to address key areas of sustainability: equity & environment, waste minimization, green living, outreach, and service-learning. Through various events and programs, the student employees coordinate and communicate the University’s sustainability efforts to their peers and the larger UVA community. Student employees will work within the Office for Sustainability’s Outreach and Engagement team.
Sustainability Student Employees can expect to play a leadership role in organizing various sustainability initiatives including UVA Green Games, Earth Month, Hoos Reuse and more. SSEs will also play a heavy role in monitoring/supporting sustainability student groups such as the Sustainability Advocates, Eco-Leaders, and Zero Waste Ambassadors.
Participants will gain professional skills in project management, event planning, communications, leadership, data analytics, and more. Given the advocacy nature of this position, SSE candidates should feel comfortable engaging with individuals across Grounds. Ideal candidates will be responsible time managers with a passion for sustainability outreach and leadership. Please use a cover letter to describe how you would be a good fit for this program and indicate which topic area (equity & environment, waste minimization, green living, outreach, or service-learning) interests you the most. If you are selected for an interview, the selection team will walk you through open positions on each of the five teams.
