ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Environment and Planning Systems team sits within Council’s Environment and Planning Directorate and focuses on public space planning and design, environment and resource recovery, and planning systems within the Cumberland LGA, along with supporting Council’s strategic objectives by enhancing the life and vitality of the communities who call Cumberland home.
Reporting to the Coordinator Environmental Management, the Project Officer (Environmental Management) is responsible for the development, implementation and reporting on environmental focused strategies and actions, from Council’s Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program and Operational Plan. The Officer will also contribute to the overall effective operation of the Environment and Planning Systems team.
The successful applicant will require:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or Environmental Management or related field
- Sound knowledge of environmental policy, including international, Federal and State Government Policy, Strategy and Targets and initiatives within industry
- Sound experience in developing and managing environmental projects including; energy and water efficiency initiatives, environmental education programs and policy implementation
- Experience reporting on Community Strategic Plans, Delivery Plans, Annual Operational Plans and budgets
- Experience with the development and implementation of promotions and communications initiatives that focus on local environmental issues
- Experience with engagement and management of stakeholders, including community, school and environmental groups
- Demonstrated experience in the preparation, implementation and reporting of grants
- Strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, TechOne and email programs for data entry and management
- Class C drivers licence
- Valid Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain).

Position information: This is a permanent, full-time position, working a 70 hour fortnight, with access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) arrangement.
This role is predominantly located at Council's Auburn office with occasional travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations.
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 11 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,656.10 to $1,904.51 per week, plus 11% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
