SME III NAVOSH Systems. The SME III NAVOSH/Environmental contractor shall be a graduate of the associated Navy A and C schools’ rates associated with NAVOSH and be considered an expert in the NAVOSH/Environmental field.
Conducts material checks and related administrative program assessments on Environmental Protection (EP), Occupational Health (OH), Medical (MD) and Ventilation (VT) related equipment and systems in support of TYCOM Readiness Evaluation (READ-E) inspections and assist visits.
• EP equipment and systems include solid waste processing, oily waste system and collection holding and transfer (CHT).
• OH equipment is everything related to safety administrative programs (E.g. fall protection, tag out, electrical safety, hearing conservation, gas free, hazmat, gas free engineering, respiratory protection, heat stress, sight conservation, safety administration, radiation and laser safety, lead protection, and general safety).
• MD equipment is everything that supports Medical (main/secondary BDS, supply
inventory, refrigeration).
• VT includes fan room material condition, air flow assessments in sanitary and hazmat
spaces, air flow alarm testing.
Responsible for assessing the material condition of shipboard EP, OH, MD, and VT equipment and systems through the execution of a series of material checks delineated in the INSURV Inspection Guides (IIG). Shall provide instruction to shipboard Sailors in the proper execution of the INSURV SOE and material checks during Assist Visits. Records all identified deficiencies in TMIT final report template using the INSURV writing guide format.
Education/Certification Requirements:
• Minimum of 15 years' experience with marine engineering centric background and commensurate experience to mirror that of a NAVOSH Department LCPO on a ship to include demonstrated relevant shipboard experience within the past 5 years.
• A successful candidate would be expected to have more than 15 years of documented hands-on experience that includes a minimum of three (3) at-sea tours in positions such as a LCPO or similar.
• All SMEs must be physically able to climb up and/or down a pilot’s ladder to board a naval vessel underway at sea and stay onboard on a U.S. Naval Vessel for several underway days.
