Expected Length of Internship:
- This position requires a minimum of 3 months during the summer semester
- As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enroll in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the essential functions of the position.
Education/Experience:
- Associate or bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Organic Chemistry or similar engineering discipline is a plus
- First Solar encourages all interns to register their internship with their university.
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Experience in the following areas
- General semiconductor device understanding is a plus
- Safely handling hazardous materials and establishing safe operating procedures.
- Knowledge and capability of tool maintenance and simple diagnose is a plus.
- Demonstrated expertise in creating safe work environment
- Excellent communication skills, proven organizational skills
- Knowledge and experience with other programming and analysis software is an advantage
- Proven competency in sample preparation and measurement
- Ability to learn the operation, calibration, and preventative maintenance of lab and testing equipment and systems
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)
- Some knowledge of SQL as well as JMP or other statistical software
- Ability to use analytical skills to read charts and graphs to find trends
- Ability to communicate on a regular basis with all levels of Associates.
- Excellent problem-solving ability
Basic Internship Scope (Project):
- Conduct current-voltage measurements of solar cells
- Closely coordinate, communicate and execute experiments internally and externally with collaborators
- Commitment and dedication to meeting goals on time
- Establishes safe operating procedures with hazardous materials
- Ensure adherence to all Safety Procedures and Housekeeping standards.
- Duties and tasks are frequently non-routine. Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.
- Has ownership within his/her functional group of a particular operational process or equipment. Oversees maintenance and trains others in this process.
- Executes planned process experiments. Collects and analyzes data and reports experimental results.
- In charge of organizing inventory records for material and glass
- Making sure the tests are complete correctly and in a timely manner
- Assisting engineers with data collection and analysis (previous MATLAB/JMP experience is a plus)
