- Ability to work both independently and with collaborative remote stakeholders
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional team members from other disciplines
- Skilled in field data collection (RFIs, pictures, notes, diagrams etc.), organization into reports, and completion of safety/construction documentation packages
What You'll Do
The Safety Manager will set the Company job site safety policy and verify subcontractor adherence to safety policy by auditing active construction projects and documenting findings through company reporting. You will leverage strong project, safety, and construction management experience. The successful candidate will know how to lead and support depending on circumstances, adjusting dynamically to meet team objectives. The majority of project sites are located in California. This role may occasionally be asked to go to Texas, or other states, to monitor active construction for periods of time as the company expands into new markets. A typical week for this role will be onsite ~4 days per week monitoring and documenting both safety and construction progress at their assigned projects. The Safety Manager may deploy consistently to one site for several weeks or be rotating through multiple sites per month depending on construction schedule.
Requirements
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supporting all aspects of Safety policy creation, Contractor adherence, and onsite verification
- Serve as key point of contact for the Company and Contractor network for safety-related topics.
- Coordinate with Portfolio Managers and Project Engineers on specific project needs.
- Closely manage contractor partners to adhere to Safety policy
- Regularly prepare Safety Reports and Construction Progress reports
- If a Safety incident occurs, Safety Manager will lead Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action Plan with Contractor. Safety Manager will also make any necessary safety policy adjustments and roll those changes out to the Contractor network.
- Perform routine site visits to audit safety and construction practices
- Additional duties as assigned and/or directed.
- This position reports to the Director of Project Operations.
- A Bachelor of Science or similar academic degree focused on electrical engineering, power systems, systems engineering or a Construction Management or similar degree.
- 5-7+ years professional experience in Construction with a preference for candidates with Safety Manager experience.
- Minimum of 30 hour OSHA Construction DOL card holder
- OSHA 100, 300, 500 Hour Construction Site Safety training
- OSHA Fall Protection Training
- Expertise in excavation methods and best practices to avoid utility strikes
- Expertise in electrical safety best practices such as Lockout tag out, megger testing, torque tests etc.
- Deep understanding of fall protection methods for working on elevated surfaces
- Deep understanding of roof water and weather proofing methods and roof construction
- Demonstrated strong organization, planning, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Business suites, and Smartsheets
- Full time access to a vehicle in working condition. Ability to travel to project sites with short notice
- Candidates must be based in California
- This role is expected to be visiting job sites 75% of their working days per month.
