As an essential member of the team, you are responsible for the implementation of the support, sustainment, and continuous improvement of various maintenance programs for our client’s facilities throughout Calgary and surrounding area. You will be supporting multiple sites so will be required to travel on a regular basis. The Technician will perform maintenance tasks, work order planning, scheduling, conducting and leading maintenance activities; planning major, minor or forced outages and acting as a lead hand during the execution.
Opportunity Summary
The Technician is also responsible for detailed planning, which will include various aspects of a given project (ie. electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and controls, scaffold, lagging, engineering); managing the procurement, receiving, storing, and tracking of plant warehouse inventory is also required.
Additional responsibilities may include roles as a system expert, industrial safety, and environmental compliance. Travel between Facility locations is an expectation and will be compensated for, per the policies.
Primary Functions
- Responsible for the performance of maintenance activities in the facility with the highest safety standard and consideration for the environment;
- Maintaining & improving asset reliability through diligent execution of our Maintenance Job Plans
- Responsible for achieving the goals defined as part of the incentive compensation targets;
- Supports the plant team in maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction;
- Supports the Operations and Maintenance managers in developing and achieving O&M plan targets;
- Takes accountability for the performance of assigned tasks including the coordination of contractors and suppliers associated with this work. Maintains a good working relationship with sub-contractors and assists management in selecting and qualifying key suppliers;
- Supports the development of budgets as required;
- Supports the development of community relations by living the NAES corporate policies and values daily;
- Supports the development of long-range equipment plans by proactively identifying areas for improvement;
- Provides operational information and feedback in the planning process of the major maintenance plan;
- Takes responsibility for an assigned system or area to be managed during planned maintenance outages to ensure necessary work is addressed;
- Takes pride of ownership of tools used in daily activities and PM work and works to retain usefulness and value of these tools;
- Makes recommendations to management for improvements in tooling that will provide payback through improved efficiency or effectiveness;
- Supports the development of risk management practices based on knowledge of equipment history and maintenance findings;
- Responsible for maintaining all safety and environmental monitoring equipment in compliance with regulatory requirements;
- Understand the inventory system and procedures. Supports stocks take as required;
- Supports the development of procedures through review of relevant or assigned procedures and recommending changes based on expertise;
- Understands the fundamentals of ARS (NERC) standards and fulfils maintenance roles required. Supports the development of standards and procedures for quality assurance in area of expertise and contributes to audits, inspections and assessments for continuous improvement;
- Responsible for understanding the chart of accounts and ensuring that transactions are booked against the appropriate account and cost codes;
- Must understand and properly apply purchasing guidelines when required;
- Required to understand and utilize IT systems within the organization and be fully competent with the CMMS and document management systems for normal daily work and historical record keeping;
- Provides information for internal and external reporting purposes in a timely and concise manner;
- Supports security through vigilance and reports any apparent breaches on a real time basis;
- Other related duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Required Job Related Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the maintenance of power generation or related industrial equipment and hold one of the following journeyman trade certifications: Millwright, Millwright/Machinist, Millwright/Welder.
- Alberta provincial (or interprovincial Red Seal Endorsed) trade certification; Millwright, Millwright/Machinist, Millwright/Welder.
- Additional trade certifications and/or a related Technology Certification would be considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years progressive work experience ideally in utility power generation or related large industrial facilities.
Experience and Attributes
- Extensive experience planning and leading work.
- Minimum 5 years progressive work experience in power generation or related large industrial facilities.
- Experience with machinery inspection, repair, refurbishment and experience with control systems preferred.
- Knowledge of the types of equipment installed, derived through combination of hands-on experience and formal training performed in the manufacturer’s factory and/or at the jobsite;
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability to safely operate hand and powered tools, test equipment and calibration appliances;
- Knowledge and experience with a computer-based maintenance program;
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability to order material and carry out warehouse operations;
- Experience in supervising contract crews;
- Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and variations in colors;
- Must have manual dexterity required to operate keyboards, maintenance tools and equipment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license;
- In addition, a related Technology Certification would be an asset.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
The candidate should be physically fit and able to walk at a brisk pace for a period of time, climb ladders, lift up to 20kg, and, when necessary, use a respirator. The candidate will work in both a plant environment and an office-based environment as part of the role. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to travel to all assets and vendor locations.
This position requires extended working hours at times, including the potential to work weekends and holidays based on workload and asset conditions.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
