Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.
Position Description:
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct the community and environment team by providing department goals and objectives.
- Develop short, mid, and long-term plans related to community relations and environmental performance.
- Provide environmental direction and input for the management team related to environmental permitting and operation of current infrastructure and development plans.
- Develops, coordinates, and participates in the community engagement initiatives (local and aboriginal) and public consultation.
- Oversee the operation of the water treatment plant, and monitoring of the tailings management facility, and related areas.
- Oversee the development, implementation and coordination of permitting, compliance and monitoring programs for air, water, and land.
- Lead the preparation and execution of regulatory reporting.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and coordination of mine closure activities including planning and coordinating reclamation activities.
- Coordinate fiscal responsibilities for the environmental department including monthly cost review and annual budget development.
- Oversee the safety of environmental employees, consultants and contractors.
- Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements of the facilities.
- Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental or natural sciences or related disciplines preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of community relations and environmental management experience preferably in the mining industry, with 3 years in a supervisory/management role.
- Sound knowledge of environmental regulations, monitoring, sampling, and related documentation.
- Solid foundation in provincial and federal legislation as it pertains to mining projects, including but not limited to agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Environment and Climate Change Canada etc.
- Solid understanding of community and environmental issues as related to new and historical mining operations.
- Experience in and knowledge of indigenous community and stakeholder engagement processes.
- Strong project management abilities.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound analytical thinking, problem solving, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
