Job Summary
The Manager, EHS & Sustainability – Region U.S., primarily manages all the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and Sustainability affairs at the Fresenius Kabi USA Headquarters located in Lake Zurich, IL, including direct EHS responsibility for the MedTech Research & Development (R&D) Laboratories.
*Position requires working on-site Monday-Friday, splitting days between Lake Zurich, IL and Melrose Park, IL.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for managing and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local EHS laws and regulations, Global / Corporate / Regional / Local EHS Directives, Policies, Programs, Procedures, and Standards (i.e. ISO Management System Standards), and for developing and implementing company procedures and programs, including Global Sustainability initiatives, which are consistent with the strategic and tactical operations of the Sites under the position’s direct oversight/purview, and those of the Global EHS Department.
- Work with local Engineering, Quality Assurance, Logistics, I&D/R&D Laboratories, and Supply Chain/Distribution Center groups to address EHS project issues to ensure that EHS concerns are considered at the design stage and that adequate funds are included within projects’ capital appropriation requests to prevent costly retrofits.
- Work with local management, landlord (property management) and building engineering / maintenance on a continual basis to establish accurate programs and budgets for compliance with Directives, Laws, and Regulations, Global / Corporate Standards, and other EHS mandates and/or needs.
- Provide in-house expertise, consultation, technical skills, and know-how resources to all Lake Zurich MedTech R&D Labs and Pharma I&DC departments to maintain a standard approach to problem-solving and the early introduction of EHS safeguards for new machinery, equipment, processes, and instrumentation.
- Ensure efficient implementation of required legislation, insurance, and Global Internal EHS Audits or External ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 / Legal EHS Compliance audit recommendations and standards’ requirements.
- Collect, analyze, and communicate statistical data, metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and Occupational Injuries / Illnesses’ Surveys, related to all EHS incident occurrences to Local Management, Regional EHS, and Global EHS, as required.
- Develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans and facilitates emergency responses and training [i.e., serve as incident commander, coordinate with landlords and Facilities Department for fire drills, etc.].
- Provide and facilitate training to emergency responders and develops overall EHS general awareness and specific training for the employee population, including new employee EHS orientations, respirator fit-testing, fire extinguisher, first aid, CPR, AED, & BBP, and similar mandatory EHS training / onboarding as needed.
- Lead and/or support site EHS investigations, including misconduct, gross negligence, property damage, work-related accidents, occupational injuries & illnesses, near misses, regulatory violations, maintenance of OSHA-300 Logs, OSHA 300A Summaries, OSHA 301 Reports, Workers’ Compensation filings and claim management, Environmental Regulatory Reporting, et al.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS with 5+ years of experience, or a related field with 10+ years of solid experience. A Master’s degree in EHS preferred. An advanced degree in Business would be a plus.
- 5+ years of solid operational hands-on ISO (14001 & 45001) & EHS management experience (including, but not limited to, environmental permitting and registrations for air, land, and water affairs, chemical safety, laboratory safety, occupational safety & health, EHS training, workers’ compensation claim management, ISO 14001 – EMS and ISO 45001 – OHSMS, etc.).
- 1+ year of management experience.
- Certifications or designation in EHS preferred.
- I.T.-based skills including word-processing, spreadsheet applications, database management, and electronic platforms and varied communication methods.
- Ability to travel locally and domestically across other States in which Fresenius Kabi USA operates as/if needed.
