The Opportunity
Abt Associates seeks an experienced Application Developer to support the development and delivery of environment and energy sector applications for federal government clients including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to evaluate and identify solutions to complex problems and the flexibility to acquire the necessary skills for implementation. An interest in working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment that includes product managers, UX designers, data scientists, geospatial analysts, and subject matter experts is important for this position.
Core Responsibilities
- Use modern programming languages and frameworks to build applications and services that are reliable, maintainable, and performant.
- Ensure systems are well-structured, tested, and secure.
- Contribute to the development team on code quality, development workflow, test strategy, test coverage, and best practices.
- Collaborate with project team and clients to understand the requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Research new technologies to align with project requirements.
- Participate in knowledge sharing with the Abt technology community and support client demos and prototypes as needed.
What We Value
- BA/BS plus 9 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience developing data-intensive web applications using Next.js, React, or similar.
- Experience developing and maintaining web backends and REST APIs using Node.js, .NET, and/or Java.
- Experience with GraphQL is a plus.
- Experience working with relational database systems and writing performant SQL queries.
- Experience building and deploying solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests with frameworks like Cypress or Jest.
- Knowledge of automated testing patterns and tools.
- Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Experience working for Federal government clients. Delivery experience with EPA is preferred.
- Solid communication skills and team orientation.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $105,120.07 - $168,192.11 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
